MD/DC/VA Archaea Site: Map to Little Bennett & Porky Pines |
Directions to Little Bennett: Little Bennett Regional Park is located in northern Montgomery County near Clarksburg, MD. The park has a large campground area called the Primitive Site that Archaea uses for its weekend campouts. From the DC beltway take 495 to 270 North toward Frederick. Stay on 270 for a while passing Rockville, Germantown, and Gaithersburg. Take Exit 18 on to Route 121 (Clarksburg Road). From the exit ramp, turn right at the stop sign and stay on Clarksburg Road. You will see brown signs for Little Bennett but do not follow the signs. Cross over Frederick Road (Route 355) and continue on Route 121 for several miles. You will pass a small general store, a parking lot and ball field, houses, and lots of trees. Keep going until you come down a large hill. At the bottom of the hill, there is a small parking lot on the right. Be alert, the lot is small and the entrance to the Primitive Site is small. There is a gate to let you on to a gravel road (Kingsley Trail). Go through the gate but close it behind you. Follow the gravel road for a few miles until it winds to the left up a steep hill. Look for parked cars. Directions to Porky Pines Farm (The Hartsocks): Porky Pines Farm is a privately owned farm (the Hartsocks) within Little Bennett Regional Park. The street address is 25518 Burnt Hill Road. Directions to the farm are similar to the Little Bennett Primitive Site. From the DC beltway take 495 to 270 N toward Frederick. As if going to the Little Bennett Primitive Site, take Exit 18, Route 121 (Clarksburg Road). Cross over Frederick Road (Route 355). At the top of the next hill, turn right on to Burnt Hill Road. Continue on the road for about 2 miles and make a left turn (kind of a partial u-turn) into a gravel driveway (a sign should be posted). If you hit Price Distillery Road, you've gone too far on Burnt Hill Road. Stay on the gravel drive and pass the first house. Go straight past the gravel pile in the field. Park in the field to the right. Camping will be in the woods too the right of the parking area. The following map is not to scale.
